I ran into Alex at the Action Council and he said his morning/afternoon outreach in Bernal Heights was a great success. Meeting many of the neighbors and discussing with them what OccupySF is all about, changing some misconceptions.

What We Do and Our Goals

The “Child Space Working Group” is to create a non-oppressive, non-hierarchical, inclusive, accessible space where families and children can participate, feel safe, and supported while they are included in the movement of Occupy SF. A space where families can camp out or stay for the day while having childcare provided during workshops and meetings.

We stand in solidarity with “Families Occupy SF” with the intention and common purpose to build a safe kid/family friendly space. We stand to give a voice to the children and families in this movement.

Goals:

To build a permanent, non-smoking, drug and alcohol free, kid/family space at Occupy SF and one day families can camp safely and have a voice in this new democracy.
To hold family events, like the Occupy SF Family Day on Sunday, to incorporate and reach out to other family members.
Provide childcare so folks can participate in different aspects of the movement; such as workshops, teach-ins, committee meetings, non-violent protests and rallies, plus all the other events at Occupy SF that take place.
The WG started a kidsGA that happens at 12:15pm on Sunday so children can get a voice too since they really are the 99%.
The WG would like to have educational workshops for children and adults at the Zinn School about healthy eating, team-building games, nutrition, gardening, cooking, and many other aspects involved in the movement.
