We met at the tail end of the Outreach Committee meeting at Rincon Center and we had a short meeting a little after 8:30 or so ’til a little before 9pm.

Attendees: David H., Jane, Will, Mike Z., Joe (new to Occupy), Shael (I’m told, though I understand he may have gotten lost in transit) and Beth (of the Think Tank) toward the very end.

1) One thing we talked about and which apparently was brought up at Outreach Committee was the possible merging of Welcome Committee with Outreach Committee. (David: can you get me the email address of the guy who was taking notes on his laptop so I/we can get copies of the Outreach minutes in order to better judge if we should merge together and also so we can send them our minutes?) We decided that it would be best to wait ’til after the holidays to make a decision on this.

2) Another thing we talked about at Outreach but which is of interest to Welcome as well was the cafe popups. Apparently two have already occurred at the Summit Cafe on 22nd street in the Mission because the manager of the Summit is part of the Outreach Committee. It was discussed by Jane that it would be a good idea to spread these popups around to cafes around the city. David H. expressed interest in pursuing them in the Mission with Enrique. Mike Z. expressed interest in helping facilitate these popups elsewhere in the city. The idea of doing popups at banks throughout the financial district was postponed ’til after the holidays so we can put most of our efforts towards maintaiining a daily presence at 101.

3) It was decided that it was of paramount importance to keep a presence at 101 Market. Thanks to Frank B., we now have a small info table and several flyers and buttons to give out (though we ask $2 donation for the buttons). I’ve been committing to two hours from noon to 2pm on most weekdays at 101 and Shael has signed our shift sign up Google document for this Friday. It’s important to sign up for shifts because Frank has been bringing the info table all the way down from where he works (about a half hour walk) and he can’t be expected to bring it down if there’s nobody signed up. Also, Ricardo and Kitchen Mike at a 101 meeting came up with a similar conclusion that it’s important to keep an info table at 101 and they also want to create a sign up sheet. I think David has said he would get in touch with them and let them know about our sign up sheet Google document (see above). And Shael, this document may need to be updated as well if you have a moment.

4) Matt at Outreach spoke of an all Working Groups meeting on Wednesday, January 4, in the evening somewhere at 101. Time and place to be confirmed but this would include not just representatives from the various working groups but all members as well.

Next meeting: Wednesday night, Dec. 28 at 8pm at 101 Market. Please let us know if you want to be removed from this list.

Thanks.

Welcome Committee

Attendees: Will, Jane, Enrique, Robbie, Janice, David H., Mike Z and Gene D.

1) Gene D. visited us to announce the results of the just finished GA at 101: Consensus was made that OSF would have GAs on Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm and Saturday at noon at 101 Market. Sunday GAs would be twice a month at neighborhood locations like the Mission or Bayview. Secondly Gene wanted to know if Welcome Committee was interested in handling the incoming phone calls OSF has been getting (about five a day). The group seemed interested, especially Jane and Will. Gene and Jane exchanged contact info.

2) Mike Z. shared Frank B’s idea that the Outreach Committee would support Welcome Committee to do popups outside 101 Market. Outreach (meaning Frank?) would supply tables, signage, flyers and OccupySF buttons. The group seemed very interested. Mike Z. is planning (as is Janice) to participate in the Castro popup this Friday at 18th and Castro starting at 8pm. Jane suggested that we popup financial district banks during the week from 12/25/11 to 1/1/12. Several of us expressed interest in this idea. David H. suggested we get more feedback from Outreach which will be meeting tomorrow, Wednesday.

3) We decided to change our weekly meeting time to Wednesday at 8pm. Jane would like to welcome new volunteers at 6:30 or 7pm to help orient them to becoming a part of the Welcome Committee.

4) Gene D. said he would be doing the Schedule of Events again. First it will be available on line and by hard copy as well.

5) David H. says his printer is up and running well. He had flyers in hand.

6) David H. talked about the Adopt-a-101er plan.

7) Starting in January Jane will pursue her orientation idea (like San Jose Occupy does). I think her idea was to have an orientation at 6pm on Wednesdays, two hours prior to our weekly Welcome Committee meeting on Wednesdays at 8pm.

8) Robbie did a brief report on the Oakland port closure. Tonight will be Robbie’s last night with us ’til March 23. Actually, he will be flying back to New York tomorrow but promises to return in the spring.

9) The Google shift document which Shael created needs to be updated to accommodate our new popup schedules. We can discuss that next week with Shael.

10) Also, we need to postpone discussion of the online agenda idea which Shael proposed a few weeks ago.

11) Jane is still working on bank-related documents. She will forward finished docs to David H. for duplication.

12) David H. will attend the Outreach Committee meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, 12/14/11.

13) Occupy Castro popup is this Friday, 12/16/11, from 8pm to 2am. Scott said that people are invited to come early to help set up.

Present were: Robbie-da-Bobbie, David H., Janice, Joe Bamberg, Mike Z., Jane Smith, Chris (from 101), James (from BMP/JHP), Will (from Do-ocracy), and Kevin Cheung.
We met at the info table at BMP/JHP a little after 8pm ’til about 9pm.

We discussed:

1) Binders. We have binders at both tables (101 and BMP) now.

2) Banner. Frank Bergamaschi is looking for a silkscreener to he can silkscreen OccupySF on sheets which Janice already has. Suggestion was that he get in touch with Art at the Culture WG.

3) Weekly email to new names from Green Festival and elsewhere. Jane and Will got the 80 names from Vi and will be sending out that email. Jane said she would be able to attend the next Action Council meeting (not this Sunday, but next Sunday at 2pm, I think) to announce our need for updated activities to be included in the email.

4) Schedule of Events (hard copy) — Shael said last time that he would be taking this over from Gene D. We need to get an update from Shael about this since he could not make the meeting tonight.

5) David H. said he had a new printer and would be able to use it at Steve Leed’s house.

6) Shift schedule Google document is available for those interested in using it. They can, if they want, indicate @101 or @BMP.

7) Shael suggested at the last meeting that he was interested in doing an online agenda so we could keep in touch with each other as the week went on and agenda item info changed. We liked the idea if he wants to pursue ti.

8) Jane will be working on bank-related documents and will forward to David H. for printing (as I understand it). Also, David agreed to print out some Move Your Money Monthly 4-panel flyers suggesting people move their money on the first Saturday of each month (like the first Bank Transfer Day on November 5).

9) My concern about a lack of flyers at both tables seems to have been resolved today by both Frank B. bringing by new flyers and David H. finding some old flyers that we already had.

10) A great interest was expressed in Outreach WG and what they are doing since they seem to be doing some interesting things (like setting up pop-up info tables in the Mission or other outlying areas). It was understood that they would send a liason to our meeting tonight, but none arrived. It was decided that David H. would attend the next Outreach WG on Wednesday at 1pm and get back to us.

11) Jane proposed the idea to do a Welcome Committee orientation like Occupy San Jose has done. She will present a proposal at our next meeting. It was agreed that Sunday would be a good idea for such an orientation.

Next meeting: Tuesday night, Dec. 13 at 8pm at BMP info table. Please let us know if you want to be removed from this list.

Thanks.
